This webcast will provide specific strategies in developing advanced shoulder rehab programs emphasizing the use of aquatic therapy as a medium to implement them. The strategies are developed to safely, efficiently and effectively bridge the challenging gap between rehabilitation and performance.

  • A progression and regression for late term upper body rehabilitation using water as a medium
  • How to use water to work around specific contraindications
  • Effective scapular stabilization techniques to prepare athletes for overhead throwing

In this webinar participants will receive an introduction to the principles of aquatic therapy, with specific applications for pediatric client populations.  There will be additional focus on physical therapy care planning for children including land to water transitions, treatment considerations, and documentation.

 

Participants will be able take the following away from this presentation:

 

  • The properties of water that are beneficial for pediatric therapy
  • What pediatric populations can benefit from aquatic therapy
  • What treatment considerations and precautions/contraindications exist for this population
  • How and when to transition between water and land therapy
  • How to effectively document aquatic therapy
  • What equipment can be used to enhance therapy sessions
  • How to make sessions fun for kids

 

All of this information will be supported by case studies from Cindy’s aquatic therapy program at Children’s Hospital of St. Paul.

 

SPEAKER BIO:

 

Barry Lippman has been associate athletic trainer/rehab coordinator at Coastal Carolina University since 2010. He has been with Chanticleer Athletics since 2006 and previously served as assistant athletic trainer. He provides direct athletic training support for the university's baseball and Olympic sport programs, and serves as rehabilitation coordinator for more than 425 Chanticleer student-athletes. Lippman is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association, and holds current certification from the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. He is also an adjunct instructor in the university's Department of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sports Studies, where he teaches in the Physically Active Living Skills (PALS) program.

 

He was head men's athletic trainer at UNC Wilmington from 2005-2006 and directly handled the baseball and women's soccer teams. Prior to his tenure at UNCW, Lippman worked with the National Football League's Detroit Lions from June 2004 to January 2005, providing daily medical coverage for players. Lippman earned a master's degree in sports medicine from Georgia Tech in 2004. While there, he was a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the football, baseball and men's and women's tennis teams, including programs that went to the 2002 Silicon Valley Classic Bowl, 2003 Humanitarian Bowl and 2004 NCAA Baseball Super Regional.

 

Lippman earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Florida State University in 2001. As a student assistant trainer and head student athletic trainer, he worked with the nationally ranked football and baseball programs at FSU.
