Aquatic Training for Healthy Athletes

Presented By:  Timothy DiFrancesco, PT, DPT, ATC, CSCS, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Los Angeles Lakers

HydroWorx 1200

Do not limit yourself to utilizing the dynamic properties of water strictly for rehab purposes! Learn to elevate your healthy athletes’ training and recovery to a new level by taking the workout to the pool. Sometimes you need something different to throw at your athletes so they don't get bored, stale or hit a plateau. The key is to do this without sacrificing the high performance training that they need to excel in their sport. Hydrotherapy can be the missing piece to the training and recovery puzzle. Check out this webinar to see exactly how!

Attendees of this webinar will learn:

  • The properties of water that benefit healthy athletes
  • How to use aquatics for injury prevention
  • How to prepare athletes for an aquatic workout
  • How to use the water to avoid over-training
  • How to make aquatic workouts sport-specific
  • Examples of research that indicate the benefits of water vs. land workouts

how the use of aquatic therapy during recovery periods can revitalize and amplify athletic performance.
According to the Institute for Integrative Healthcare Studies, the use of contrasting temperatures – also known as contrast therapy – has been used as a healing tool for thousands of years.  The contrast between heat and cold is believed to exert a physiological effect on the body’s pain mechanism.
In this webinar Lance and Lindsey will share ways to reduce soreness and enhance muscle recovery in your athletes using water therapy.  They will demonstrate how water therapy has given their athletes at Michael Johnson Performance an edge by performing  recovery exercises in the pool to actively flush the body, add additional caloric ‘burn’ to the weekly microcycle, and incorporate joint motion in deloaded states.
Attendees will learn how they can see better outcomes by utilizing active recovery in the water rather than passive recovery during breaks from intense training sessions in order to keep the muscles moving as they heal from exercise-induced microscopic tears.

What Past Webinar Attendees are Saying:

The presenters did an excellent job of explaining the rationale for the exercises. This
was an interesting look at how to develop speed both on land and in the water.”
