Amy Arruda, Director of Aquatics at Leg Up Farm, a center for children with special needs, will discuss the benefits of water for this patient population and will share specific protocols that they use. She will also present cases seen at Leg Up Farm in which they’ve successfully used aquatic therapy to increase progress.

In this webinar participants will receive an introduction to the principles of aquatic therapy, with specific applications for pediatric client populations.  There will be additional focus on physical therapy care planning for children including land to water transitions, treatment considerations, and documentation.

  • What pediatric populations can benefit from aquatic therapy
  • What treatment considerations and precautions/contraindications exist for this population

Amy Arruda is the Director of Aquatics at Leg Up Farm, a pediatric facility for children with special needs in Mount Wolf, PA. She graduated from Misericordia University in 2011 with her MSPT and again in 2013 with her DPT. She began working at Leg Up Farm in 2011 and received her Aquatic Therapy Certification from the Aquatic Therapy and Rehab Institute in 2013. 

 

Amy enjoys working in pediatrics and loves seeing the kids make strides in their therapy sessions. She enjoys working in the pool because it offers a whole new experience for the child and allows them to move in ways they can’t on land.  At Leg Up Farm, she schedules 3 PTs and 3 OTs to use their pool with clients 5 days a week.
