Sports Medicine Aquatic Therapy Program Development

DSC_9707instagramIn this webinar, Kayla Greiner and Jason Yoder of the Sports Medicine Center at Children’s Mercy Kansas City will provide insight into the development of a sports medicine aquatic therapy program that serves a wide range of patients and athletes. They will discuss the criteria used in pool room design from an architectural perspective while keeping in mind the needs of their patients. Kayla and Jason will highlight additional considerations relating to pool maintenance including HVAC, pool decking, chemicals and locker rooms. They will discuss additional sports aquatic therapy equipment that is useful based on the goal of each treatment session. Jason and Kayla will provide a high level overview of their typical patient diagnoses, aquatic therapy progressions and transition to land-based therapy. They will share open dialogue via questions and answers to provide first hand experiences as guidance for other providers.

SPEAKER BIO:

Kayla Greiner has been practicing in outpatient orthopedics with an emphasis in sports medicine and pediatrics for nearly a decade. Throughout that time she has had the opportunity to incorporate the use of aquatic therapy on a regular basis for her patients. Her professional interests include management of ACL injuries, the female athlete and developing sports-based aquatic therapy programs to improve patient outcomes. Kayla is an APTA Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist.

Jason Yoder has been practicing in outpatient orthopedics with an emphasis in sports medicine for nearly 10 years with the last 5 spent at the Sports Medicine Center at Children’s Mercy. He had the fortunate opportunity to be an integral part of the recent creation of the 27,000 square foot Sports Medicine Center developed in conjunction with Sporting Kansas City. During that process he was able to finalize pool room design as well as ensure appropriate integration and usage for both Children’s Mercy amateur athletes as well as the professional MLS Sporting Kansas City athletes.
